Creating a Game about Communal Wealth for Saint Louis Organizers

There’s nothing we love more than seeing one of our games being used to facilitate education, action, and laughter in communities! TESA had the pleasure of working with Solidarity Economy St. Louis, a network of groups and individuals working together to transform their local economy, to create a customized version of our game Loud & Proud.

Here’s what Julia Ho, founder and organizer of Solidarity Economy St. Louis, had to say about working with TESA:

Our members were so pleased and impressed with the final product of Loud & Proud! It’s rewarding for us to see people engage with the game and come up with their own creative ways of using it to start conversations both inside and outside of our organization. The TESA team was a pleasure to work with, and did a great job of listening and tailoring to our needs every step of the way. Regardless of what you do, TESA is sure to have something to offer to amplify your work, build tools for collaboration, and create opportunities for education.

Loud & Proud is TESA’s fast-paced social justice word association game. With quick-to-learn rules, the game is often used as an icebreaker by organizers and activists, and as a way to inspire conversations about important political concepts (like “civil rights” and “renewable energy”) in a lighthearted way. Custom Loud & Proud created for Solidarity Economy St. Louis

Solidarity Economy St. Louis approached us to create a custom version of Loud & Proud for an event they were organizing to study communal wealth in the US. While they had already written a book on the subject, which was chock full of rich, compelling content, it was dense, and needed some work to become understandable and relatable. The group hoped to use the game as a regular introductory activity to help make participants comfortable and give a sense of how people were already thinking about and experiencing topics like scarcity, abundance, competition, and cooperation.

Solidarity Economy St. Louis premiered the game at Resist + Renew, a dynamic event that brought together games, live music, and good food to facilitate discussions about justice, sustainability, and self-determination.
