In celebration of the end of Co-cycle’s 4,000-mile trip across the country, TESA and Equal Exchange are bringing together two great things this Saturday, 9/1 at Kendrick Park in Amherst from 11 am to 2 pm: Co-opoly and chocolate.
In case you haven’t heard about it, the Co-cycle Project, a youth-led, bicycle-powered tour, has been raising awareness of, and facilitating connections between, cooperatives in the United States this past summer. A group of 14 riders started their trip in San Francisco June 2. They have spent the past nearly three months biking across the country, stopping at cooperatives along the way, and blogging about their journey. Their trip has also been documented on camera by NYC film students. You should definitely check out their webpage to learn more about their incredible journey.
The riders are completing their trip in Amherst, Massachusetts on Saturday. To welcome them back to the community and to celebrate their amazing tour, UMassFive College Credit Union and the Valley Alliance of Worker Cooperatives (of which TESA is a member) are hosting a fun outdoor event filled with food, prizes, and local co-op displays at Kendrick Park (on East Pleasant Street across from Bertucci’s).
TESA will be there with cool posters and copies of Co-opoly, and we’ll be sharing a table with Equal Exchange, who are offering chocolate and iced herbal tea. We will play a few mini-games, talk about our new projects, share the latest about Equal Exchange and the amazing work they’re doing, and hand out tasty treats.
The celebration runs from 11 am to 2 pm, with the riders showing up about 11:30 am. Bring a few dollars to enter the raffle and buy delicious food! River Valley Market will be providing food–only $2 for half sandwiches and $4 for full sandwiches and $1 salad or chips! All proceeds will go to the Co-cycle Project.
